The Avenue, London

Fineline Studio is reimagining a lower-ground floor flat into a sustainable first home for a young couple. Now in early design development, the project proposes a complete renewal, replacing damp, outdated interiors with a resilient and contemporary living environment.

The scheme is anchored by stronger connections to the garden. A lightweight, glazed conservatory extends the living space and draws natural light deep into the plan, while a long-redundant garage is reconfigured into flexible accommodation. Across the flat, spaces are rationalised to improve flow and functionality, with new openings and finishes designed to maximise brightness and a sense of openness.

Material choices and detailing prioritise durability and comfort: high-performance glazing, improved insulation, and efficient new services ensure long-term energy performance, while natural finishes provide warmth and tactility.

The project demonstrates how existing housing stock can be transformed through context-sensitive design; balancing light, material, and function with the adaptability required for contemporary patterns of living.
