‘Acropolis’ Residence, Greece
Fineline Studio is transforming two adjacent apartments on Chatzichristou Street into a single, full storey residence in the historic centre of Athens, directly opposite the Acropolis. Conceived as a four bedroom holiday apartment, the project responds to both its extraordinary urban setting and the operational demands of contemporary hospitality.
Rather than treating the apartments as separate units, the design works at the scale of the entire floor. Internal boundaries are removed to create a continuous sequence of spaces that extend across the full width of the building, with perimetric balconies forming a constant edge between interior life and the city beyond.
The existing fabric provides a robust starting point. Timber floors, marble, and terrazzo are retained and reinterpreted, allowing the new layout to build on the material logic of the original apartments while supporting a clearer and more legible plan. Bedrooms are carefully distributed to balance privacy and shared use, while living spaces are organised to accommodate short stay occupation without sacrificing domestic scale.
The project explores how housing in Athens’ historic centre can be consolidated and adapted for hospitality use, working with the existing structure to create generous, durable spaces shaped as much by the city outside as by the life within.
