Fineline Studio is reworking a lower ground floor flat into a sustainable first home for a young couple in Brent, London. With planning permission approved, the project transforms a constrained and outdated interior into a resilient, contemporary living environment.

The design is organised around a strong relationship to the garden. The former garage is reclaimed as living space, while a lightweight glazed conservatory introduces new accommodation and draws daylight deep into the plan. Across the flat, the internal layout is carefully reconfigured to improve flow, flexibility, and everyday use.

Material choices and detailing prioritise long term performance and comfort. High performance glazing, improved insulation, and upgraded services support a more energy efficient home, while a considered material palette reflects the clients’ appreciation for colour, tradition, and the outdoors.

The project demonstrates how existing housing stock can be adapted through context sensitive design, balancing light, material, and function to support contemporary patterns of living.

Construction is now underway, with completion expected in summer 2026.
